A graceful and well-balanced round Shohin bonsai pot in a calming sky blue glaze by the second-generation Heian Kozan. With its clean silhouette and soft coloration, this pot is particularly well-suited for refined deciduous trees such as Zelkova, Japanese maple and trident maple. The smooth surface and subtle hue allow the seasonal beauty of the tree to take center stage while offering a refined visual harmony.

This piece reflects the classical Japanese bonsai aesthetic — elegant, unforced, and deeply considered. Its proportions and coloration make it an ideal choice for spring and summer displays, or as a serene contrast to the fiery reds of autumn foliage.

About Second-Generation Heian Kozan:
The second-generation Kozan, born in 1947, succeeded the prestigious Kozan name from his father, Kazuo Koike — one of the most respected bonsai potters of the 20th century, alongside masters like Tofukuji. Originally trained in textile design, he entered the world of ceramics in the early 1960s and soon became a core part of the revived Kozan kiln.

Working under the name Shōkozan (Little Kozan), he focused on wheel-thrown forms (rokuro-mono), particularly round glazed and Mishima-style pots. After taking on the name Kozan in 1973, he continued creating both collaborative works and his own original designs, including gold and silver-decorated ceremonial pots. His refined sense of proportion and sensitivity to surface treatment earned him a quiet but respected place among Japan’s great potters.

Though now retired, his works remain appreciated for their elegance, craftsmanship, and subtle artistic flair — making them valuable additions to any Shohin bonsai collection.
