Description
This round bonsai pot by Aiba Koyo brings together balanced form and a masterfully applied Oribe glaze — his signature deep green finish, known for its luminous depth and classical elegance. The rounded walls offer a soft, flowing profile, making this pot especially suitable for delicate deciduous trees, flowering species, or refined shohin compositions.
The Oribe glaze pools gently along the base and rim, creating subtle variations in tone that highlight the craftsmanship of this Tokoname master. While understated in shape, the vibrant glaze gives the pot presence on any display bench or exhibition stand.

About Aiba Koichiro
Ceramic Name: Aiba Koyo (相羽鴻陽) Real Name: Aiba Koichiro (相羽鴻一郎, 1944–2022)
Aiba Koichiro was born into a multi-generational family of potters in Tokoname. After studying Chinese antique glazes under Takeyama Fusazo, he founded the Koyo Toen (Koyo Pottery Studio) in 1970 and developed a wide variety of high-quality bonsai pots.
He is best known for his exceptional glazes — especially his Oribe green — which became a signature of his style. His pots are praised for their usability, subtle elegance, and adaptability to various tree styles. Since his passing in 2022, Aiba’s pots have become increasingly collectible.
The Aiba lineage continues with his son, Kuniaki Aiba (Juko Koyo), and the recently established Momiji-gama (Maple Kiln), extending the family’s ceramic legacy.
