This Japanese Bonsai Pot is crafted from high-quality unglazed stoneware, boasting a smooth surface that will developed a rich, warm patina over time. Its defining feature is the “Lotus” style rim, which is softly scalloped to resemble the petals of a flower. This fluted design adds a layer of visual interest and softens the pot’s substantial silhouette, balancing masculine durability with a touch of feminine grace. The clay body is dense and resonant, typical of the finest Tokoname production.

About the kiln:
Yamaaki was one of the most prestigious and prolific kilns in Tokoname, Japan. Founded in 1920 by Akiji Kataoka, the kiln became renowned for its ability to produce large-scale, high-quality stoneware that balanced mass production efficiency with hand-finished craftsmanship. Under the guidance of three generations of the Kataoka family, Yamaaki pots became a staple in the bonsai world, celebrated for their consistent clay quality, precise shapes, and durability. Although the kiln closed its doors in 2011, Yamaaki ceramics remain highly collectible and are widely respected by enthusiasts for their practical excellence and traditional aesthetics.
