Description

This round unglazed shohin bonsai pot is attributed to the early generations of the famous Yamaaki kiln, likely first or second generation. Such pieces have become increasingly rare and highly collectible. A rustic drum style executed with a free-form and rough character. This natural, uneven look is typical of Yamaaki’s earliest work and makes the pot a superb complement to trees with rugged bark or dramatic age—such as a powerful, characterful pine. The rustic texture enhances the impression of age and harmony between pot and tree.

A small chip is present near the rim, shown clearly in the detail photos. Due to the pot’s rough-hewn and organic nature, the imperfection is barely visible and will continue to blend in as the pot acquires patina. The price has been adjusted accordingly to reflect this.

This is a unique opportunity to acquire an early Yamaaki piece—functional as a container and valued as a piece of bonsai history.
